About the event
This Veterans Day, we're putting our engineering skills to work for a purpose!
We'll begin by hearing from a woman veteran about her experience and service. Then we'll meet Bessie Blount Griffin, a physical therapist and inventor whose work with injured World War II veterans inspired her to develop assistive devices that helped people regain independence.
Then it's your turn to invent.
Students will be challenged to design and build an assistive mobility device using simple materials like cardboard, craft supplies, and other everyday objects. They'll identify a specific need, brainstorm possibilities, prototype a solution, test it, and make improvements along the way.
There is no single "right" invention. The challenge is to think like an engineer: Who are you designing for? What do they need? And how could you make something that helps?
